Third time was apparently the charm for Goodyear of Gadsden. The tire manufacturing plant was named as the state’s 2014 Large Manufacturer of the Year earlier today. The Business Council of Alabama and the Alabama Technology Network handed out its annual awards during a luncheon today in Montgomery. The Goodyear plant in Gadsden has been in operation for 85 years and is the largest employer in Etowah County. The company currently employs just more than 15-hundred workers and produces more than 20,000 tires each day under the brand names of Goodyear, Dunlop and Kelly. Gadsden’s Back Forty Beer Company was also honored today as the state’s Small Manufacturer of the Year. The Downtown Gadsden brewery was founded in 2009, moved to Gadsden in 2011 and is already the state’s largest manufacturer of alcohol – producing seven award-winning craft beers that are available all over the southeast.
