Cedar Bluff Mayor Resigns
Cedar Bluff Mayor Martha Baker has resigned. In her resignation letter to the council today, Baker did not give a reason for her decision. The town clerk and the assistant clerk also resigned. The Council voted to accept the resignations and to post the clerk and assistant clerk positions in order to fill them as quickly as possible. Mayor Baker told the council she appointed Council Member Billie Burkhalter to serve as Mayor Pro-tem and she asked the council to set that appointment aside so the new interim mayor could appoint their Pro-tem. The council did so and then appointed Council Member Tammy Crane as Mayor Pro-tem. Mayor Baker gave a 30 day notice to the council or until such a time they could find someone to fill the unexpired term. The resignations also led the town to cancel the annual Liberty Day. However, the council did approve the fireworks show for the night of June 28th.
