If you will be away from home for next Tuesday’s primary election, then you need to listen up. The deadline for those who plan to place an absentee voter ballot application is tomorrow, and there are a few things you should know. Absentee ballot applications and completed absentee ballots should be hand delivered or mailed to the Absentee Election Manager for your county. A voter may cast an absentee ballot for the following reasons: if they have a physical disability, is a registered Alabama voter living outside the County, is an appointed election officer or poll watcher, or works a required shift of 10 hours or more that coincides with polling hours. An absentee ballot returned by mail must be postmarked no later than the day prior to the election and received by the Absentee Election Manager no later than noon on Election Day. And, if you miss the absentee ballot application deadline there may be nothing you can do. But, you may be able to apply for an Emergency Absentee Ballot. It must be submitted no later than 5:00PM on the day before the election.
