Progress 20 Project

Friday, May 30, 2014

Motorists traveling on I-20 through Cleburne County need to prepare for some new lane changes as the Alabama Department of Transportation’s Progress 20 project to construct additional lanes on Interstate 20 continues to move forward.  Both eastbound and westbound traffic is being shifted to the new inside lane and shoulder from milepost 205 to milepost 209 until approximately September 2014.  Officials urge drivers to be aware of the change because the lanes are narrowed in the area as well.  Grading, drainage and paving will continue on the outside lanes and shoulder. The Alabama Department of Transportation has enacted a reduced speed limit of 55 mph in the work zone and trucks must only use the right lane. Motorists on I-20 can expect delays during the lane shifts and it is suggested that you consider using alternate routes when possible.  Also remember to adjust your arrival and departure times, observe work zone speed limits and pay attention to all work zone signs.  As always - you should also use extreme caution in the construction area.
