Boyd Honored by Commission in Etowah County

In recognition of this week’s 70th anniversary of the D-Day Invasion of Normandy during World War Two, the Etowah County Commission, today, honored a War World Two veteran who continues to serve by volunteering in the community. 90-year old A.C. Boyd was drafted into the Army at the age of 18 and soon found himself working as a paratrooper in Europe. Now, many years after that experience, Boyd is still serving as a volunteer with RSVP of Etowah County. Boyd regularly delivers meals to shut-ins with the MANNA program and drives a parking lot shuttle at Gadsden Regional Medical Center. Boyd was a member of the 89th Infantry during the war. The D-Day Invasion was the beginning of the end for Hitler and the Nazis. The invasion took place on June 6, 1944 – 70 years ago this coming Friday.
