Emergency Personnel To Testify

A jury will hear testimony from emergency personnel in Joyce Garrard's Capital Murder trial. The Etowah County woman is charged with the death of her 9-year-old granddaughter, Savannah Hardin. Prosecutors say Garrard forced the girl to run for hours without stopping as punishment for lying about eating candy. The girl collapsed and died a couple of days later at a hospital. The defense wanted to bar medical workers from giving any opinions about what happened, but during a hearing this morning, Judge William Ogletree denied that request. Garrard's trial is set to begin in September.
