Alabama's Unemployment Rate

Alabama’s preliminary seasonally adjusted May unemployment rate is down. That’s according to Governor Robert Bentley who announced today, that the rate is 6.8 percent. It’s down from April’s rate of 6.9 percent. May’s rate represents more than 147, 068 unemployed persons, compared to 147,229 in April and more than 135,000 in May 2013. Also in the report, Alabama’s wage and salary employment increased in May by 4,700, rising to 1,925,000. And the Alabama Department of Commerce shows that employers are hiring in Alabama. They recently announced that more than 50,000 jobs have been created in Alabama.
