10th Annual Katy Williamson Hook and Cook

On Saturday, many children, along with volunteers and staff from the Boys and Girls Club of East Central Alabama attended the 10th Annual Katy Williamson Hook and Cook in Wellington. It is an event where children who might not ever go fishing get the chance to. The children laugh, frolic, and play in the outdoors at the home where Katy Williamson grew up. She was a young woman whose memory inspired her parents, John and Susan Williamson to create the event. Boys and Girls Club Chief Professional Officer, Johnny Byrd says it’s the kind of experience that the kids will always remember.

Katy Williamson will always be remembered. It is just this kind of gracious work and infectious fun that she was known for. Her memory also inspired a scholarship fund in her name held by the Community Foundation of Northeast Alabama.

(CARL) Scholarship recipient Jillian Bridges, a University of Alabama at Birmingham Junior, has earned the scholarship for the past three years and will use the money to fund her education as a nursing student. The charity event ended its day with plenty of exhausted children and plenty of delicious fish cleaned, cooked, and devoured.
