Today, representatives from the Justice and Civil Rights Initiative held a press conference on the steps of the Calhoun County Courthouse. They spoke about flyers distributed by the United Klans of America to communities in Calhoun County last week. Residents in the communities of Oxford, Saks, and Wellborn reported that they received promotional material from the organization. According to Ed Moore III of the Justice and Civil Rights Initiative, today’s press conference declares that society needs to remember that we have worked to move beyond the days of past prejudice. Moore says the flyer should not scare people, but keep them aware. Moore says, The Justice and Civil Rights Initiative is not looking for confrontation. But, they believe that their actions today will move their goals forward. They are hoping for greater diversity in the support of an end to intolerance.
