New City Court Building

The City of Gadsden today held a ribbon-cutting and dedication event for the city’s new Municipal Court building in East Gadsden. The building, located just off of Hwy 278, was once the J.K. Weaver Technical School. The facility now houses the offices of the city’s municipal court system – complete with a courtroom and a police precinct. Mayor Sherman Guyton says that the new facility will help relieve congestion at city hall and be an asset for the East Gadsden community. The new police precinct will be the home of the department’s patrol division and will have a desk officer on duty 24 hours a day to take walk-in reports from the public...those reports will no longer be taken at city hall. The department’s administrative and investigative offices will remain in the police headquarters at city hall. The city spent about $600,000 to remodel the building which had been given to them by the school board.
