Main Street Alabama Meets with Members of Local Media

Main Street Alabama continues its weeklong sessions of discussions in Oxford. The program brought a resource team to conduct interviews with consumers, residents, and business owners on what direction they want for their downtown district. Last night, the program gathered more than 100 residents and even Governor Robert Bentley to talk about plans for Oxford’s downtown. Today, the program met with members of local media to get ideas on how to connect with businesses, get tidbits on the uniqueness of Oxford, and find out more about Oxford’s background. Main Street Alabama President and State Coordinator Mary Helmer says it’s been an amazing week and today’s session shows just how local media understands the need for people to connect. The Main Street Alabama Team is conducting 10 different interviews with different groups. The team is meeting with business and property owners, the Oxford City Council, bankers, realtors, economic development officials, and the school district. Helmer says they are considering every suggestion. Once the interviews are complete, the team will release the initial recommendations for how to improve the downtown district on Friday.
