Mikey Monday Qualifies For YMCA Swimming Nationals

Next week the top 1,200 swimmers from across the country will meet in Indianapolis for the YMCA Long Course National Championships and it the meet will have some local flavor.

Former Saks High School star Mikey Monday has qualified for nationals and will compete in both the 50 meter and 100 meter freestyle events. This evening, Monday’s swim team- the YMCA Blue Dolphins- held a send off party for him. He has only participated in organized swimming for a little over a year and says he is noticing growth both in and out of the pool.

Just before the close of the school year, Monday and Saks high school teammate Elon Bush became the first two athletes in Calhoun County history to sign swimming scholarships. Now he’s getting great experience before he heads to college.

The YMCA Blue Dolphins are a year-round swim team. For more information on how to join, contact Coach Brandy at 256-238-YMCA (9622). You can also visit www.ymcacalhoun.org for additional information.
