Voluntary Recall of Some California Fruits Expanded
The voluntary recall of California nectarines, peaches, plums, and pluots has been expanded. The initial recall covered specific lots of fruit packed from June 1st through July 12th . The expanded recall which is a precautionary step by Wawona Packing Company, expands the recall by five days, to fruit packaged through July 17th. The company in Cutler, California, announced late last week that the fruit may be contaminated with a bacteria that can cause listeriosis. According to research it is bacterial infection that causes infections of the central nervous system. Wawona Packing Company has brought in experts to help with the investigation, and the company is working closely with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
