Alabama Case of Tuberculosis

Saturday, August 9, 2014

The Alabama Department of Public Health has confirmed a case of tuberculosis at the Mercedes-Benz plant in Tuscaloosa County.  Health officials say as a result of one employee testing positive for the disease, 50 plant workers will be screened.  The number of people tested could increase as the investigation continues.  Tuberculosis is an airborne disease that can be fatal if it isn’t treated. Active cases are treated with a combination of medications over a six-month period.   Officials stress that those who purchase a vehicle produced at the Mercedes-Benz plant are not at risk catching the disease.
