Citizens of Anniston gathered tonight in a prayer service at Zinn Park to express their solidarity with the protests echoed around the nation for the killing of an unarmed black youth hundreds of miles away. Ferguson, Missouri is the location where 18-year-old Michael Brown, was shot and killed by a police officer during a confrontation. After Brown’s death, the city of Ferguson erupted into chaos with the gassing of protestors, police in riot gear, and police arresting reporters. The town has been subject to both looting and protesting since Brown’s death. NAACP Calhoun County Chapter President David Baker was at tonight’s demonstration and he says he hopes tonight’s prayers will be heard. A preliminary private autopsy performed on Sunday found that Brown was shot at least six times, including twice in the head.
