Police officers and members of the community gather for an open meeting at the Houston Cole Library on Jacksonville State University’s Campus, today.
According to officials with The Justice & Civil Rights Initiative, President & Founder Ed Moore III hosted the event to bring about a dialogue regarding current and controversial community issues.The forum addressed topics such as what a police department would do when an officer is killed and how citizens can recover from nationwide police related controversies, in addition to other subjects. The free and open forum also discussed the cases of Rodney King, O.J. Simpson, Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner and Michael Brown. The event included several panelists, including sociologists, a human rights activist, and Annetta Nunn, the former chief of police for Birmingham.
