Capital Murder Trial Delayed

The trial for an Etowah County woman accused of running her granddaughter to death in 2012, has been delayed. An order filed last week pushed the Capital Murder trial of Joyce Garrard to February 23, 2015. The trial was scheduled to begin on September 22. The order cited "procedural issues.” Prosecutors claim Garrard forced her 9-year-old granddaughter , Savannah Hardin, to run for three hours as punishment for telling a lie about eating candy. They say the girl collapsed and died a couple of days later at a hospital.
