Calhoun County Manhunt

In Calhoun County today, the sheriff’s office, Oxford police and U-S Marshals worked together to resolve a manhunt for two people wanted for robbery and burglary. Authorities say that it was a long, drawn out tense situation that involved the lockdown of Coldwater Elementary School. The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office says Michael Bresley and a female burglarized a residence in Alexandria this morning. A caller to the department reported that they had returned home to find a woman sitting inside a car in their yard and a man inside their house. Bresley and the woman took a handgun from the home and later pointed it at the homeowner. After the confrontation, the two suspects left the scene in a grey minivan. The vehicle was sighted at the Winn Dixie at Highway 202 and highway 78 in Coldwater. The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office searched the area for Bresley after taking the woman into custody. He was later spotted in woods behind a Coldwater residence. Once authorities made contact with him he brandished the handgun, pointing the weapon at himself and refusing to drop it. He said he was going to die. Amerson says authorities used rubber bullets and no real ammunition to subdue Bresley. Calhoun Coroner Pat Brown announced this evening that Bresley died today, from a single gunshot wound. Authorities are investigating whether or not the fatal wound was self-inflicted. Bresley’s body has been sent to Huntsville for an autopsy by the Department of Forensics. The investigation is ongoing.
