Jacksonville State's Eli Jenkins and Devaunte Sigler were named the Ohio Valley Conference Players of the Week, the league office announced on Sunday.
Jenkins was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while Sigler earned Newcomer of the Week honors following the Gamecocks 26-23 overtime road win at No. 13 Chattanooga on Saturday.
Jenkins scored the game-winning touchdown on the third play of overtime on a 13-yard run. He finished the game with eight rushes for 82 yards (10.2 ypc) and that touchdown while also completing 15-of-21 passes for 122 yards.
The Birmingham native led a Gamecock offense that finished with 409 yards of total offense as Jax State won for the sixth time in its last eight tries versus nationally-ranked opponents.
Sigler, a native from Mobile, had five tackles, 2.0 tackles-for-loss, a sack and a forced fumble in the Jax State win. He helped anchor a Gamecock defense that held the high-powered UTC attack to just 111 yards of total offense on the night (-5 yards in the first half) and did not allow a first down until 11 minutes to play in the third quarter.
Jacksonville State has an open date next Saturday. The Gamecocks' home opener is Sept. 20 against former Gulf South Conference rival West Alabama.
