Sunday Alcohol Sales

Two weeks after voters in Gadsden approved Sunday alcohol sales for the city, the Gadsden city council approves the ordinance that will put the new law into effect. After some discussion concerning the times that Sunday alcohol sales would be legal, the council voted unanimously to approve an ordinance that allows sales to begin at 6:00am on Sundays and run until 2:00am on Mondays for all categories of liquor licenses. The ordinance puts Sunday sales on an even par with weekday sales in the city. Gadsden Commercial Development Director Lesa Osborn says today’s vote is something that restaurant developers have been waiting to anxiously hear. According to the city clerk’s office, the mayor is expected to sign the ordinance immediately, publication will happen later this week and the new law should be in effect for this weekend.
