The Anniston City Parks and Recreation Department kicked off their fall youth soccer season with a test course of FootGolf on Saturday near the soccer complex located at Ft. McClellan. City officials introduced the sport to youth soccer participants at the three-hole test course through a pilot program. The City of Anniston Parks and Recreation FootGolf course is the first of its kind in Alabama. The FootGolf test course has a par-3, par-4, and par-5 hole and is between 65 and 160 yards. It will remain open to the public throughout the fall season. Anniston Parks and Recreation Board Member, Matthew Wright, says FootGolf is something different. City of Anniston Director of Golf Operations, Kenny Szuch (ZOOCH), says the sport of FootGolf was started by athletes from South America and Palm Springs, California 2 years ago. He adds that he is expecting organized soccer leagues, High School soccer teams, and club teams to come out and have some fun. He says it’s the same rules as golf with bigger holes and a soccer ball. Szuch (ZOOCH) says eventually, the official course will be at the Anniston Municipal Golf Course with a regulation 9 hole FootGolf course layout. He adds that the course will not infringe on the activities of the actual golf course. The FootGolf course is scheduled to open in the next month and Anniston Parks and Recreation will host an inaugural tournament to welcome all the players.
