Calhoun County Schools Employee of the Month
For the first time in Calhoun County Schools Employee of the Month history, the school system recognizes a team of two exceptional employees. Rebecca Wheeler and Theresa Cunningham are two White Plains High School Para-Professionals. They drive the special needs route every day and spend the school day teaching students to make good grades and reach for success. And, according to the faculty and staff at the high school they are always happy, smiling, and energetic. They say that makes for great relationships with the students. Today, TV24 talked to Wheeler and Cunningham about the rewards of the job, what makes their job important, and what it feels like to be honored as Employee of the Month. Rebecca Wheeler has worked within the Calhoun County Schools System for 17 years. She has a husband who is a farmer, two children, and has lived in the White Plains community for more than 22 years. She says her job is important because it helps students realize their potential. Wheeler says she find the rewards continue beyond a single day. She says sometimes former students will thank her for what she has done. And , that’s the biggest act of gratitude. She says that being Employee of the Month feels really good, but she is humbled by the award. Wheeler’s teammate, Theresa Cunningham has worked for Calhoun County Schools system for 16 years. She has a husband, three children and a grandbaby. She’s lived in the White Plains community for more than 14 years. Cunningham says the Employee of The Month honor is a blessing. Cunningham also says that her job is important because of the collaboration with Wheeler and her students. She enjoys encouraging the children. Wheeler and Cunningham say their partnership works because they are kind and considerate towards each other. They add that the both have positive attitudes and are always there for one another. White Plains High School Principal, Andy Ward says he has worked with Wheeler and Cunningham for 3 years. He says they do an exceptional job with the students and they couldn’t ask for two finer women. America’s First Federal Credit Union sponsors this event for the Calhoun County Schools and provides a $200 gift certificate to each Employee of the Month. Wheeler and Cunningham will share the certificate.
