Criminally Negligent Homicide

Thursday, September 18, 2014

An east Alabama woman will not spend time in jail for the death of her infant son, who died last summer after being left in the car. A press release from the Calhoun County District Attorney's office states that Katherine Papke of Anniston pleaded guilty today to a charge of criminally negligent homicide.  The Army private originally faced charges of manslaughter and leaving a child unattended.  Prosecutors believe that Papke was overwhelmed by work and personal obligations when she drove to work and forgot the four-month-old boy in the back seat of her car on August 9, 2013.  According to the District Attorney's Office, instead of spending time behind bars, Papke will participate in a diversionary program. She will also continue serving in the military.
