Calhoun County Leaders Respond to Shooting of Toddler

A 2-year-old Anniston boy continues to recover after being shot in the foot last Tuesday. It happened while the child was sitting on the front porch of an apartment at Norwood Homes, but police do not believe the boy was the shooter's intended target.

The Justice and Civil Rights Initiative held a press conference today with law enforcement, the Calhoun County District Attorney's office and city of Anniston representatives.

They’re asking for the public's help identifying the shooter. Police believe the shooter may be in his late teens to early 20s, and may have been driving a red or burgundy 4-door sedan. Authorities say there are numerous witnesses to the shooting, but people are reluctant to come forward. Calhoun County N-A-A-C-P Chapter President, David Baker, says Anniston residents need to join the effort of the Anniston Police Department. Ward 2 Anniston City Councilman, David Reddick says the newly formed Citizens Advisory Committee will be effective in incidents such as this one. Anyone with information is asked to call the Calhoun County Crimestoppers line. The number is 256- 238-1414.
