Cherokee County Unemployment Rate Drop
One local county’s unemployment rate has improved. The unemployment rate for Cherokee County dropped in August. The latest numbers from the Alabama Department of Industrial Relations reports the rates lowered from the 6.4 percent figure posted during July to 5.8 percent. Officials say that’s considerably better than the state rate of 6.9 percent for the month of August and its lower than surrounding counties such as Cleburne which came in at 6.3 percent – Etowah, which posted a 7 percent– DeKalb, which came in at 7.1 percent – and Calhoun, coming in at 7.8 percent. Counties posting the lowest rates were Shelby at 5.1 percent and Blount at 5.7 percent.
