Talladega County Murder Conviction Upheld

The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals has upheld the murder conviction of Corry Averett. The Sylacauga man was convicted and sentenced to life in prison last September for the 2004 murder of Desmond Anderson. Prosecutors said evidence showed that Averett shot Anderson during an altercation over drugs. It happened on November 11, 2004 at Anderson's home in Sylacauga. They also say that Anderson's girlfriend was there when the shooting happened, and that she heard a scuffle, and then gunshots. Prosecutors also said that while he was awaiting trial, Averett told another federal inmate about Anderson's murder. Averett appealed his conviction and on Friday, the appeals court upheld it.
