Chemical Endangerment of a Child

The Etowah County Sheriff’s Office continues its crackdown on women suspected of drug abuse during pregnancy. Kristi Johnson of Rainbow City and Casey Shehi of Gadsden are both charged with one count of chemical endangerment of exposing a child to an environment in which controlled substances are ingested, produced or distributed, which is a felony. According to Sheriff Todd Entrekin’s office, Johnson and Shehi both admitted to investigators that they took controlled substances during their pregnancies. Each woman has a bond of $10,000. They will each be supervised by Etowah County Community Corrections and must provide a negative drug test before being released on bond.
