The Jacksonville State football team continues to show improvement after posting a third straight win on Saturday. Their 52-28 victory over Murray State also marked the first conference win of the season.
The Gamecocks have totaled over 630 yards of offense in two consecutive weeks (636 vs. Murray State) and they will look to keep it going Saturday when they host UT-Martin this weekend. The Skyhawks are 1-4 on the season, but head coach John Grass says they cannot and will not overlook any opponent. Since the Michigan State game to start the season the JSU offense is averaging 41 points a game while the defense is giving up an average o 11 points in the second half. Linebacker Ben Endress says the team is making significant progress. The OVC honored JSU quarterback Eli Jenkins with the co-Offensive Player of the Week award. The redshirt sophomore rushed for a career high 149 yards and three touchdowns he also completed 15 of 20 passes for 180 yards and another score. When asked about his success, Jenins praised the play of the guys in the trenches. JSU and UT-Martin hook up this Saturday at Burgess-Snow Field at 3pm. ESPN3 will air the game live.
