Operation Clean Sweep

Tuesday, September 30, 2014

Oxford Police have arrested 14 people for prostitution and promoting prostitution following an undercover investigation called "Operation Clean Sweep." In a statement from Chief Bill Partridge he says, "We are determined every day to make sure our city is safe and these types of criminal behavior are not allowed to occur. I believe by aggressively going after these illicit activities makes our community safer. You never know where our undercover officers will be. We also want to thank Calhoun-Cleburne District Attorney Brian McVeigh, Etowah County Drug Task force, Gadsden Police, and the FBI.” According to Chief Partridge, the arrests were a result of activities on "backpage.com," which is a site that allows people to post for illegal services with selections for "adult jobs" and "escorts."
