Convictions Upheld

The Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals has upheld the intentional murder and attempted murder convictions of Rapheal Simmons. The Talladega man was convicted in Calhoun County Circuit Court last November for the murder of Barry Wright and the attempted murder of Lorenzo Gilmer. Prosecutors presented evidence during the trial that showed that Simmons shot and killed Wright and that he also shot and intended to kill Gilmer. Authorities said the crimes happened during a "drug deal" that involved Gilmer and another man at a home where Gilmer was staying. Simmons received 62 years in prison on each conviction, which he appealed.
