GECEMA Receives FEMA Grant

Etowah County could be getting more community storm shelters. Officials with the Gadsden-Etowah County EMA say they have been awarded a new $625,000 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agent. The grant money is expected to be used to install additional FEMA-approved storm shelters in the county. EMA Director Mike Bryant says that a meeting will be held next week to identify locations that would best benefit from storm shelters. Officials will have to provide FEMA with details of how the money will be used by October 27th. Bryant says that the grant could fund as many as eight 100-person shelters and that any left-over money could possibly be used for additional emergency supplies or equipment.
