Cherokee County Major Crimes Unit

A local county establishes a new unit within its law enforcement division. District Attorney Mike O’Dell, along with Sheriff Jeff Shaver, Centre Police Chief Kirk Blankenship, Cedar Bluff Police Chief Steve Walden, and Leesburg Police Chief Lanny Ransum, met on October 1st to sign an agreement to establish the Cherokee County Major Crimes Unit. The agreement appoints Chief Investigator Josh Summerford of the District Attorney’s Office to be the director of the new Unit. According to the agreement the Cherokee County Major Crimes Unit will be responsible for investigating crimes such as homicides, robberies, rapes, and serious assaults. The establishment of the Unit will allow investigators from every law enforcement agency in the County to formally come together to investigate major crimes.
