East Alabama Sickle Cell Walk

The Central Alabama Sickle Cell Foundation presents the East Alabama Sickle Cell Walk on Saturday, October 11 from 9:00AM until 12Noon at Anniston’s Historic Zinn Park. Walk organizers are expecting several hundred people to gather for the day’s events which will also include music and food. Today, National and Central Alabama Sickle Cell Foundation Board member Johnny Harris, who is a parent of two children with sickle cell, talked to TV24. He says Sickle Cell disease is not something you can easily catch. The disease is a genetic blood disorder. Harris adds that tomorrow’s walk-a-thon will be a great teachable moment. He says the organization has gotten a lot of community support and they are really excited about tomorrow. Harris has served on the Central Alabama Sickle Cell Foundation for 8 years.
