1st Ebola Case Contracted in U.S.
The Texas state health department has confirmed that a healthcare worker at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas has preliminarily tested positive for the Ebola virus. 26-year-old Nina Pham helped care for the late Thomas Eric Duncan after he was admitted with Ebola on September 28. Reports indicate that Pham is a critical care nurse at Texas Health Presbyterian Dallas, and one of at least 50 people who cared for Thomas Eric Duncan before he passed away last Wednesday. Pham has been in isolation since late Friday. At last check, Frieden said the worker is in stable condition. Frieden added that the agency will investigate the yet undetermined "breach in protocol" that resulted in the newly diagnosed Ebola case. Pham had extensive contact with Duncan during his hospitalization. Investigators have not determined how the healthcare worker contracted the disease from Duncan.
