Anniston Council Approves Money for Fire Station

The city of Anniston plans to construct a new firehouse for practicality and more room. The Anniston City Council approved the construction of a more than $1.7 million fire station that will be built on Highway 21. According to Anniston Fire Chief Tony Taylor, the construction will be located on the site of the closed Marvin’s retail store. The new fire station will be replacing the Fire Department’s old station on the traffic circle at McClellan. Taylor says the department was lucky to get the 8 acres of property. The budget for the construction will be coming from the city’s fire tax and not the general fund. Construction on the facility is set to begin in November.
