Mass Casualty & Ebola Training

Piedmont Health Care and Rehabilitation is teaching the importance of personal protective equipment in a series of trainings sponsored by Disaster Recovery Services. Several Piedmont firefighters and healthcare workers have taken part in the Ebola Safety training course that began on Monday. Piedmont Health Care Registered Nurse Billy Gaddy says it’s the kind of training they hope they never have to use. Disaster Recovery Services President Patrick Nolan says putting on and taking off the P-P-E improperly puts a health care provider at risk for contamination. He says the training applies to any mass casualty event. Nolan says they are following the guidelines of the C-D-C. The training comes in the wake of two registered nurses at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas contracting the virus from Liberian national Thomas Eric Duncan. And in the wake of Duncan’s death, the C-D-C has been criticized for P-P-E guidelines.
