Piedmont HS Hosts Safe Kids Sports Clinic
East Alabama has long been known for a strong sports community and with the help of former JSU coach Jack Crowe and leading personnel in the medical field, it will also be known as a launch point for sports safety.
On Thursday night at Piedmont High School, parents, coaches and students attended a sports safety clinic presented by Safe Kids Worldwide. The organization focuses on teaching athletes, coaches and parents on concussions, hydration, overuse and how to prevent and react to various injuries in sports. Coach Crowe has partnered with Safe Kids to help with the cause.
Jacksonville State University has also joined the cause and they are in the process of creating a organized course of education for coaches and instructors in the four major areas (concussions, overuse, hydration and emergency response).
Participants in tonights event got a first hand look at the training seminars. Piedmont will be the seed of a nationwide tour for this campaign. The tour is set to launch in January and will visit Chicago, Pensacola, Indianapolis Dallas, Denver, New York, DC and Philadelphia.
On the Pigskin Roundup Friday night, Mickey Shadrix will much more on this program and its national implications in his interview with Coach Crowe.
