Calhoun County Deputy Struck by Vehicle

A Calhoun County Sheriff’s Deputy remains in the hospital this morning after being struck by a car. According to Sheriff Larry Amerson, the Deputy was assisting State Troopers with traffic control at an accident scene at Highway 431 and Bynum-Leatherwood Road. He says that the car which struck the Deputy did not stop. Amerson says an ambulance was on the scene and was able to provide medical assistance. The Deputy was taken to R-M-C and then to U-A-B, where he’s been undergoing surgeries all day. Amerson adds that these types of incidents are almost always avoidable. He says drivers need to use appropriate caution. The injured deputy is an 11-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office and a former Marine. He’s been conscious and talking the entire time. However, at the request of family, they are not releasing his name.
