Thursday, October 30, 2014

A program designed to keep senior citizens moving and healthy celebrates local participation with a ceremony. The ceremony at NHC Place Assisted Living in Anniston awarded residents for their involvement in Gentiva’s STEP On It program.  The program encourages walking.  Gentiva Home Health and Hospice Registered Nurse Karen Jones says they used a pedometer to keep up with the seniors. Several of the participants have surpassed the goal of 5000 steps in one month.  NHC Place resident Leon McCormack walked more than 100,000 steps. One enthusiastic NHC Place resident praised the program. NHC Administrator Dana Hanshaw says people assume that you slow down with older age. Sarah McCormack was the grand prize winner with more than 129,000 steps.
