JSU Writers Bowl

Hundreds of high school students in the 10th through 12th grades put pen to paper and created works of poetry and prose for a local competition. The Jacksonville State University Writers Bowl hosted more than 480 high school students at this year’s event in Leone Cole Auditorium, today. The team competition is to promote excellence in and an enthusiasm for writing. Jacksonville State University Professor of English Randall Davis says this is the 19th Annual competition and there are 80 teams from schools throughout the region.Each team consisted of two sophomores, two juniors, and two seniors. They worked together to produce a single work. Weaver High School Writers Bowl Sponsor Linda Davis says they brought 4 teams full of good writers.The final written work is judged by members of the JSU faculty. Weaver High School Senior Megan Brown says she enjoys the opportunity to let her creativity shine.There was also an individual essay competition. The event was sponsored by The JSU Writers Bowl Planning Committee.
