Republicans Back Hubbard As House Speaker
It looks as if Republican Alabama House Speaker Mike Hubbard could serve in the same leadership position for another four years. House Republicans voted today to support Hubbard for another term as speaker of the house. Hubbard was indicted last month on 23 charges accusing him of using his offices for financial gain. Hubbard has maintained his innocence and called the charges politically motivated. Multiple House Republicans rallied around Hubbard after his arrest. The 72-member caucus met behind closed doors for three hours today before announcing the decision to back Hubbard. The caucus did not announce the vote split. The full House of Representatives will officially select a speaker in January.
