Appeal Hearing Scheduled
A federal judge has scheduled a hearing for December 15 in response to former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman's request to be released from prison. Defense lawyers argue that Siegelman's appeal has gone on much longer than anticipated, so they want him to be released until a decision is reached. Siegelman was convicted in 2006 on charges that he sold a regulatory board position to former HealthSouth CEO Richard Scrushy in exchange for campaign donations. Siegelman is serving his sentence at a Louisiana prison camp and is projected to be released in 2017.
