An Alabama Department of Transportation crew working on the Eastern Bypass near Anniston hit an Alagasco pipeline today. The break took place on Highway 431 across from Christian Corner Meats at the construction of the Eastern Bypass. According to Alagasco spokesperson Sherri Goodman, there were no outages and no evacuations. She says there were no issues with safety. But, there were increases in area leak reports. She says that was due to the gas smell. Goodman says the real issue for the public was the road was blocked off by police to provide a safety barrier to protect the drivers in the work zone. Crews are working to repair the leak. The leak should be fixed by tonight.
