Single Vehicle Crash In Piedmont Claims Life

A single vehicle crash in Piedmont this morning killed a Weaver man and critically injured a Jacksonville woman. Calhoun Coroner Pat Brown said, 41-year-old Patrick Brown died after being thrown from his Nissan Sentra, which overturned on the side of Max Wellborn Road near its intersection with Alabama 21 around 4 a.m. And, 36-year-old Deborah Gail Robinson of Jacksonville was also thrown from the car and was taken to UAB Hospital in Birmingham with critical injuries. Brown said State troopers believe that both of the victims were not wearing seat belts. He added, the car was headed north on Max Wellborn Road when the driver failed to make the sharp turn approaching Alabama 21. Brown said the car struck a guardrail, flipped, and landed on the other side. A passing driver spotted the wreck at about 6 a.m. and called police.
