Turkey Prices Up: Department of Agriculture
You may pay a little more for your Thanksgiving turkey this year – But not enough to kill your appetite. According to the Department of Agriculture, turkey production is low and prices are up about 14 cents a pound. The average price this year is $1.18 per pound compared to $1.03 a pound last year. But, you may not notice the increase at the grocery store. Economists say retailers often are willing to take a loss on the turkey because customers will spend more for other items like potatoes and cranberries. Pricing will vary so you may want to check several stores before you head out to shop.
