JSU Moves Up to No. 2 in FCS Coaches Poll

Jacksonville State moved up another spot to No. 2 in this week's Top 25 FCS Coaches Poll just one day after the Gamecocks earned the No. 3 National Seed in the NCAA Football Playoffs.

It marks the highest ranking for the Gamecocks in school history, as the Gamecocks were also ranked No. 2 during the 2010 season. New Hampshire is the new No. 1 in the FCS Coaches Poll, just ahead of the Gamecocks, while North Dakota State is third, Eastern Washington is fourth and Villanova rounds out the Top 5.

Jacksonville State (10-1, 8-0 OVC) enters the playoffs having won 10 games in a row since a season-opening loss to nationally-ranked FBS foe Michigan State, which is tied for the second longest active streak in the country.

The Gamecocks rank No. 4 nationally in total offense (510.5 yards/game) and 14th in total defense (309.7 yards/game) entering the playoffs. The team was a perfect 8-0 in the OVC for the first time since joining the league in 2003 and are the 10th overall team to go a perfect 8-0 in OVC play all-time.

Jacksonville State is appearing in its fifth overall Division I playoffs, having also appeared in the event in 2003, 2004, 2010 and 2013. The Gamecocks are 2-4 all-time in the event, having topped Samford and McNeese State a season ago on its way to the FCS Quarterfinals.

By being the No. 3 overall national seed the Gamecocks receive a first round bye, marking the fourth time an OVC has received a first round bye since the field expanded above 16 teams in 2010 (JSU and Southeast Missouri received byes in 2010 as did Eastern Illinois in 2013).

Jax State will play the winner of the first round matchup between Sam Houston State (8-4, 7-1 Southland) and Southeastern Louisiana (9-3, 7-1 Southland); the two teams shared the Southland Conference Championship this season but did not play each other in the regular season.

JSU's second round game will be played at 1:00 p.m. CT and televised on ESPN3. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $40 for Stadium Club Level seats and are on-sale at the JSU Athletic Ticket Office or online at JSUGamecockSports.com.

The JSU Athletic Ticket Office will have extended hours over the next two weeks and all season ticket holders will have until noon on Dec. 3 to reserve their season tickets. Please call 256-782-8499 to purchase tickets or for more information.
