Glencoe Football Preps For Madison Academy In Semis
At Glencoe High School, the students have the entire week off- however the football team is working this week. The Jackets are getting set for a big 3A semifinal matchup against Madison Academy Friday night. TV24 Sports checked in at Glencoe practice Tuesday afternoon. The buzz around the community is at an all-time high as the team plays in the semifinals for the first time since 1993.
There is no secret to Glencoe’s success- it’s on the ground. Running back Thomas Ozmint was sensational last week recording over 200 yards on the ground and three touchdowns; but they counter that with fellow senior Dylan Stone- who from his quarterback position- has already accounted for over 1,000 yards rushing.
The challenge this week is about as tough as it gets, 2-time defending state champion Madison Academy heads to Wilson-Darnell Stadium after knocking off Wellborn 56-8 last week. Ozmint says the Mustangs present a strong, but not insurmountable challenge.
The Jackets make up one half of the local teams still in the mix for high school football’s ultimate prize. In Class 2A, Ranburne will take their undefeated record to Fyffe for the north championship and a spot in the Super 7 next week down in Auburn.
North- Ranburne (12-0) at Fyffe (13-0)
South- Washington Co. (13-0) at Elba (13-0)
North- Madison Academy (12-1) at Glencoe (13-0)
South- Gordo (13-0) at Dale Co. (13-0)
