Unemployment Said to be Soaring

First time unemployment claims are at their highest since September. The Labor Department says claims climbed to 313,000 last week. Despite the increase, the number is significantly lower than it was at this time last year. It’s also lower than the average number of claims filed in the years before the recession. From 2004 through 2006 the average for weekly unemployment claims was about 329,000.
