Child Care Costs in The U.S.
It’s no secret that child care is expensive. But did you know it can cost more than college? Child Care Aware’s latest report found the cost of child care in the U-S can be more than $14,000 a year for an infant or more than $12,000 annually for a four-year-old. How much you pay depends on where you live. Parents in Massachusetts spend more on infant childcare than in any other state: more than $16,000 a year. New Yorkers pay less in dollars, but give up a higher proportion of their incomes for infant child care, about 16-percent. The best bargain for child care? That would be in Louisiana, where it only costs about 7-percent of the median income.
