Organ Recital:FUMC Gadsden

East Alabama music lovers are in for a real treat this weekend as Gadsden First United Methodist Church organist Benny McNair presents a special Advent Organ Recital Sunday afternoon at the church in Downtown Gadsden. McNair – who has been an organist for more than 50 years - will be playing the church’s historic pipe organ that was installed in the church and dedicated in 1967. The holiday recital will be presented in memory of two of the area’s most well-known and well-respected music educators – George McSpadden and Rip Reagan. Both men died earlier this year within about 48 hours of each other and will be celebrated for the huge impact they had on many lives. The recital will also serve as the first opportunity for the public to see the newly renovated and restored sanctuary at the church. McNair says that what started as a few small repairs eventually turned into a complete restoration and modernization of what is known as Gadsden’s oldest church. McNair’s "Advent Organ Recital" will be held this coming Sunday afternoon at 3pm at First United Methodist Church of Gadsden which is located on 5th Street in Downtown Gadsden. The recital is open to anyone who would like to attend at no charge.
